Im Februar 2021 haben wir euch unser Projekt neuronex vorgestellt. Neuronex ist ein Kooperationsprojekt von NEDGEX mit Neuroforge, einem Bayreuther Unternehmen im Bereich der KI-Entwicklung. Im Rahmen des Projekts wurde an einer neuartigen Software gearbeitet, die den aufwendigen und manuellen Prozess der Objekterkennung vereinfacht. Mithilfe von vorhandenen CAD-Daten wird das manuelle Training der Künstlichen Intelligenz für die Objekterkennung erleichtert.
Nach mehreren Monaten Entwicklungszeit konnten wir mit den Kollegen von Neuroforge einen funktionsfähigen Prototyp erstellen. Diesen haben wir dem Digital Sounding Board bei unserem letzten Pitchday präsentiert. Weiterhin haben wir einen funktionierenden Demonstrator gebaut, auf dem ein von neuronex trainiertes KI-Model läuft, welches unterschiedliche Objekte voneinander unterscheiden kann. In Rücksprache mit dem DSB sind wir nach dem Pitch übereingekommen, das Projekt neuronex zunächst zu beenden. Trotz großer Mühen und der wirklich bemerkenswerten Unterstützung unserer Kollegen aus den Geschäftsbereichen sind wir zu der Erkenntnis gekommen, dass Künstliche Intelligenz zur Objekterkennung derzeit noch nicht weit genug in der Industrie verbreitet ist. Aus diesem Grund kann man zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt nicht davon ausgehen, dass genug Kunden gefunden werden können, um neuronex in den kommenden Jahren in ein rentables Geschäftsmodell für die NETZSCH-Gruppe zu entwickeln.
Der Exit bedeutet jedoch nicht, dass die Aufwände umsonst gewesen sind. Wir haben im Rahmen des Projekts wertvolle Kontakte und Erfahrungen sammeln können. Der entwickelte Prototyp wird zunächst auf Eis gelegt, kann und soll aber zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt erneut auf dem Markt erprobt werden.

neuronex project initially terminated
In February 2021 we introduced you to our project neuronex. Neuronex is a collaborative project between NEDGEX and Neuroforge, a Bayreuth-based company in the field of AI development. The project involved working on a novel software that simplifies the laborious and manual process of object recognition. With the help of existing CAD data, the manual training of the artificial intelligence for object recognition is facilitated.
After several months of development, we were able to create a working prototype with our colleagues from Neuroforge. We presented this to the Digital Sounding Board at our last pitch day. Furthermore, we built a working demonstrator running an AI model trained by neuronex, which can distinguish different objects from each other. On the photo you can see Andreas demonstrating the demonstrator to Dr. Thomas Denner.
In consultation with the DSB, we agreed after the pitch to terminate the neuronex project for the time being. Despite great efforts and the truly remarkable support of our colleagues from the business units, we have come to the conclusion that artificial intelligence for object recognition is currently not yet widespread enough in the industry. For this reason, it cannot be assumed at this point that enough customers can be found to develop neuronex into a profitable business model for the NETZSCH Group in the coming years.
However, the exit does not mean that the efforts have been in vain. We were able to gather valuable contacts and experience during the project. The prototype developed will be put on hold for the time being, but can and should be tested on the market again at a later date.
