Ein Innovationsprojekt besteht immer aus mehreren Phasen, in welchen es unterschiedliche Hürden zu meistern gilt. Dies spiegelt sich auch im NEDGEX Innovationsprozess wider, der ebenfalls aus mehreren Phasen besteht. Wir starten mit ersten Ideations und der Validierung der daraus entstandenen Idee, entwickeln anschließend erste Prototypen und MVPs hin zu fertigen Produkten und Business Cases.
Am Beispiel von Notify lässt sich dieser Prozess sehr gut verdeutlichen. Im März 2019 kam das Projekt durch den Input von drei Kollegen der NFT ins Rollen (damals noch unter dem Namen MCS). Kunden unserer NETZSCH-Mühlen soll die Möglichkeit gegeben werden, mittels eines Gateways, Daten wahlweise in einen eigenen oder einen von NETZSCH verwalteten Cloud-Speicher zu schicken. Das war die Grundidee hinter Notify. Im nächsten Schritt wurde diese Idee in Gesprächen mit verschiedenen Kunden validiert und anschließend geschärft, wodurch neben der Datenübertragung auch eine App zur Überwachung von Maschinen in den Fokus rückte.
Nachdem das Notify Team das Projekt erfolgreich vor dem Digital Sounding Board (DSB) gepitcht hatte, ging es im nächsten Schritt darum, erste Klick-Dummys zu bauen, um hiermit erneut Kundenfeedback einzuholen. Basierend auf den Anmerkungen der Kunden wurden Features Schritt für Schritt angepasst und erneut getestet, um Notify optimal den Kundenbedürfnissen anzupassen. Anschließend wurden die Dummys in einen ersten funktionalen Prototyp überführt und auch dieser wurde wieder bei Kunden getestet. Auch das Feedback zu den Prototypen fiel positiv aus, was die Realisierbarkeit des Projekts bestätigte, welches somit somit ein zweites Mal vor dem DSB präsentiert werden konnte.
Nach dem erfolgreichen Pitch galt es in der nächsten Phase den ersten Prototypen in eine skalierbares MVP (Minimum Viable Product) zu überführen und dabei gleichzeitig einen rentablen Business Case zu erarbeiten. Schnell wurde klar, dass es, um diese Herausforderungen zu meistern einen starken Partner braucht. Hierbei entschied man sich für eine Kooperation mit wattx, einem Berliner Venture Builder, der auf die Lösung komplexer Herausforderungen im industriellen Sektor spezialisiert ist. Wattx verfügt über Fachwissen in allen Bereichen, welches für den erfolgreichen Aufbau von Innovationen in technischen Unternehmen erforderlich ist und bietet somit sowohl Unterstützung in der Entwicklung der Software, als auch in der Erarbeitung eines passenden Geschäftsmodells zu Notify. Das Endergebnis dieser Zusammenarbeit kann sich sehen lassen. NOTIFY ist ein funktionsfähiges und effizientes IoT-Produkt, welches erfolgreich in den Geschäftsbereich zurückgeführt werden kann. Notify: from the first idea to the functional product

An innovation project always consists of several phases, in which different hurdles have to be overcome and proof has to be provided. This is also reflected in the NEDGEX innovation process, which also consists of several phases. We start with initial ideations and the validation of the resulting idea, then develop first prototypes and MVPs to finished products and business cases.
The example of Notify illustrates this process very well. In March 2019, the project got rolling through the input of three colleagues from NFT, then still under the name MCS. Open up the possibility for customers of NETZSCH mills, by means of a gateway, to send data either to their own cloud storage or to a cloud storage managed by NETZSCH. That was the basic idea behind Notify. In the next step, this idea was validated in discussions with various customers and then sharpened, bringing an app for monitoring machines into focus in addition to data transmission.
After the Notify team had successfully pitched the project to the Digital Sounding Board (DSB), the next step was to build the first click dummies in order to gather customer feedback again. Based on customer comments, features were adapted step by step and tested again to optimally adapt Notify to customer needs. The dummies were then transferred to a first functional prototype, which was also tested again with customers. The feedback on the prototypes was also positive, confirming the feasibility of the project, and the second pitch took place before the DSB.
After the successful pitch, the next phase was to transform the first prototype into a scalable MVP (Minimum Viable Product) and at the same time develop a profitable business case. It quickly became clear that a strong partner was needed to master these challenges. They decided to cooperate with wattx, a Berlin-based venture builder specialized in solving complex challenges in the industrial sector. Wattx has expertise in all areas that are necessary for the successful development of innovative technical companies and therefore offers support in the development of the software as well as in the development of a suitable business model for Notify. Working together, they manage to develop the NOTIFY project into a finished IoT product and successfully return it to the business sector.
